Paddle Boarding 101

Whether you’ve had never paddle boarded before or if you’re an expert at the sport, it is never a bad idea to run over some safety guidelines before you hit the water!

- Always wear a life jacket. In the chance that your leash falls off, you will still have a flotation device on you to keep your head above water. The life jacket is very important for keeping you safe.

- Always keep your leash on your ankle. Your leash is what connects you to the board in case you fall off. It keeps you close to your board so that you will always have a floatation device with you, so it is very important for your safety.

- Be aware of the wind. Lake Erie is crazy with its winds somedays. Higher wind speeds turn into choppier water and cause difficulty for staying on your paddle. Knowing how windy it is will give you a heads up on what the waters will be like.

- Paddle with a partner! It is more fun and safer when you paddle because who knows what might happen. If someone else is aware of the situation, they can help you or call for help.

And you’re ready to go! Apply some sunscreen and enjoy!
