Outdoor Winter Fun

Winter has certainly settled into Northern Ohio — temperatures are dropping and we have a beautiful covering of snow. But in a year where we have all been cooped up, this winter we are feeling extra stir crazy. In addition to dreaming of warm summer days and googling endless vacation desitinations, we have been bundling up and getting outside!

Outdoor activites in winter require a bit more preparation but still deliver all of the same great benefits (vitamin D, lowered stress, improved well being, fewer allergies… the list goes on) in addition to some season-specific benefits including less populated parks and trails, new sights, and the ability to better-spot wildlife.

We know forcing yourself to leave your warm, cozy house can be a challenge so start small — even a 15 minute walk — will make a huge difference. Also, warm clothes are everything — “there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes” — so bundle up and get out there!

See some ways we are getting out there this winter!

Expore the beaches: winter is arguable one of the best times to explore the beaches and shores — you are likely to have the shore to yourself and the ice and snow make it a unique experience

Check out a metropark: you will see things you never noticed during the summer months when there is ample foliage!

Make it a date: Walking coffee date with a partner, friend or relative

Get Creative: For those with little ones, get greative and let them paint the snow (food coloring in a spray bottle), or a treasure hunt (with frozen colored ice cubes ie. gems)

Outside the Box: For those more daring, ice fishing or skiing

Warm Up…Outside: Snowy outdoor fire

Let us know on social how you are getting out there this winter!
